PERFORMANCE BASED NAVGATION - PBN

With the present and future development and implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) into world-wide operations of both airspace and approach procedures, it is important to review the procedures and limitations for both enroute navigation and approaches using different RNP limitations. This program reviews the following PBN general information: General definitions and principles for different types of waypoint such as flyover or flyby, paths and terminators. A discussion of the benefits, limitations and a roadmap for implementation of PBN. Database validation and coding errors, database change cycles. The use of geodesic satellites and the increase accuracy of airborne navigational equipment and the use of the WGS-84 geodetic reference system for enroute and approach precision. PBN is still in the implementation stage but change is occurring on a regular basis in operational aviation procedures and limitation. This is a need to know information for both operators and pilots. Courses are constantly monitored and updated when major changes in authority documentation is released.
